Family members, friends, and DeKalb County officials are expressing condolences after a Dunwoody High School graduate was killed in an attack while serving on the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Twenty-year-old Sgt. Rose Lubin was killed on Nov. 6 when a 16-year-old attacked and stabbed her as she was on duty in Jerusalem, according to nonprofit Friends of the IDF.
“Our cousin Rose was a sweet soul who left a comfortable life in Atlanta to join the IDF after she graduated from Dunwoody High School,” said Beth Halpern Brown. “She was murdered by a terrorist as she stood guard near the old city of Jerusalem. She is our hero, and we are devastated.”
Those who knew Lubin described her as being a talented singer. She was a featured guest at the Friends of IDF Gala held in May, stated Jan Jaben-Eilon with Atlanta Jewish Times.
On Nov. 7, Rep. Hank Johnson shared a message on behalf of himself and DeKalb County Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson sending “love and deepest condolences” to Rose Lubin’s parents, Robin and David Lubin, who reside in Dunwoody.
“This is a profoundly sad and difficult day and time for Rose’s family, Dunwoody High School, and for the greater Dunwoody Community,” said Johnson. “We grieve with them in this most devastating time.”
Some friends described how Rose Lubin responded to the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas by defending Kibbutz Saad, a regional religious elementary school in the Negev desert in southern Israel located near the Gaza Strip.
“This 20-year-old girl defended Israeli towns in the south,” said Lara Bee Krinksky, a friend of Rose Lubin. “She had an incredible voice and came from a beautiful family. She loved Israel and loved being Jewish.”
