Carlsbad edges out Roswell boys after Lady Coyotes win | Local Sports

Roswell junior Starlena Boardman won her exhibition match over Scarlett Harmer in two periods, taking Harmer down 58 seconds in.

For the boys, Roswell’s Ezekiel Garcia lost his match against Mathyis Meier in the 114. Carlsbad’s Sabas Hernandez in the 127 fell Aden Ingram late in the first period. Coyotes’ sophomore Amarante “Bubba” Marrujo in the 139 battled Carlsbad’s Justin Owens through three periods and overtime, but Owens came out victorious with a 10-8 sudden victory over Marrujo. 

Roswell senior Connor Nichols lost to Carlsbad’s Ethan Powell in the 145 match. Nichols was disappointed with his performance and felt he could have done better.

“I’m disappointed because I know I could’ve worked harder,” Nichols said. “Props to the Carlsbad wrestler, he won this match and did well. 

In the 152, junior Antinee Graham went to three periods with Jeremiah Otero but lost by an 11-5 decision. Jesus Leyva in the 189 lost his match against Carlsbad’s Gerimiah West due to an accidental elbow on West.

On the bright side, Roswell’s Luis Godoy in the 160 got a 53-second fall on Xavier Huff. In the 172, junior Keegan Nichols took down Carlsbad’s Juan Rubio just before the second-period clock expired….
