Socorro over Roswell in Wednesday’s wrestling dual | Local Sports

For the boys, the Coyotes’ Hunter Berry, in the 107, and Ezekiel Garcia, in the 114, fell in the first round against Socorro’s Marius Lucero and Isiah Estrada. Roswell’s Nathaniel Lujan outlasted Angel Perez in the 133 and won in a 5-2 decision. In the second period of the 139, Socorro’s Kadeyn McNeil got the best of Roswell’s sophomore Amarante “Bubba” Marrujo. Essiah Avitia lost against Socorro’s Patrick Ware Moya in the third period by fall in the 152-pound weight class. 

Roswell junior Kaden Lopez, in the 215, lost his match against Socorro’s Dominic Anaya in the first round, and Warrior David Gutierrez fell to Coyote junior Noah Lynn in the 285 match. Roswell varsity wrestling head coach Jesse Boggs said that they did not wrestle well tonight, but that they have four weeks to fix mistakes before heading into state.

“It’s frustrating in a good way,” Boggs said. “We are young and still making some young mistakes, but our upper guys wrestled well. I love dualing with Socorro, they wrestle hard, they want to come at you, and they are aggressive. That is what you want before state. Congrats to Socorro. There’s stuff to fix but we have four weeks until state. We will hit the weight room and fix those.”
