Basketball: Roswell rises, Goddard and Gateway fall | Local Sports

The Lady Warriors had plenty of turnovers and missed opportunities on the free-throw line, with 15 missed in the game. Gateway junior Jordan Reeves was the diamond in the rough with eight points off the bench and led the Lady Warriors in scoring. Senior Emily Martin and sophomore Iliana Garcia scored five points each. Dora’s Briana Rodriguez led the game with 19 points, followed by Faith Jasso with 16.

The Gateway boys did not fare much better against the Coyotes’ energetic game with a final score of 64-42. The Warriors led the game momentarily in the first, but Dora overtook them in the same quarter, going on a 19-9 run. The Warriors cut their opponent’s lead to six in the second and five in the third, but the Coyotes stayed aggressive on offense to keep their hosts at bay. Freshman Warrior Grady Munson led the team with 23 points, followed by junior center Noah Gomez, who had seven.

The Gateway varsity teams hosted the Eunice Cardinals on Saturday in a non-district doubleheader. Results for those games were not available at press time. After this, the Gateway teams will have a rematch at Dora next Thursday. The Lady Warriors (10-7, 2-1 District 4-1A) will play at 5:30 p.m. and the Warriors (6-11, 1-2) are scheduled to start their game at 7 p.m.
