Carl Edwin Cooper
Carl Edwin Cooper was born December 3, 1935, in Jal, New Mexico, to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Samuel Cooper (Faye White), both now deceased.
Carl attended the 1st-3rd grade in Jal, New Mexico, and the 4th-5th grade in Eunice, New Mexico. The family traveled to Deming and Willcox, Arizona during his 6th grade year. He was in Buckeye, Arizona to finish the 7th grade and completed the 8th grade in Kermit, Texas. Carl’s family bought a ranch north of Roswell where Carl attended and later graduated from Roswell High School in 1953.
Carl married Mardine Hughes of Roswell on July 2, 1954, in the Nazarene Church of Roswell. Carl graduated from New Mexico State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Out of college, Carl began his CPA career with Douglas Douglas and Hughes. Later he became a partner with Main Lafrentz & Co. Carl and a partner formed the CPA Firm of Cooper & Newberry in El Paso.Â
In 1972, Carl and Mardine moved to the Cooper ranch northeast of Roswell. Where he ranched and continued his CPA career while working for Roswell Radiology Associates as well as having his own CPA practice in Roswell until 1995 when he formed a father and son CPA partnership named Cooper & Cooper CPA’s. In 1998, Carl retired from Roswell Radiology as well as Cooper & Cooper CPA’s. He continued to actively ranch until 2012.
Carl enjoyed ranching, tennis, and golf. In tennis, he competed locally and enjoyed a lifetime of playing tennis with his friends and associates. He was a member of the Jaycees in El Paso and served on the Valley Bank of Commerce bank board in Roswell.Â
He and Mardine enjoyed couples bridge tournaments in Roswell. They enjoyed playing 42 and 88 and taking cruises with their family. Carl and Mardine were members of the First United Methodist Church of Roswell.
