“It’s as if it’s a secret not too many people in Roswell seem to know about,” Cole said. “But they should.”

People are getting together to exercise, being creative in art classes and playing billiards in a room with four pool tables and two pieces of art with dogs playing billiards. There are line-dancing and tap-dancing classes, as well as a host of other things to try.

They have an array of exercise equipment — more than a dozen machines went up less than a year ago.

Some people sit at the tables in the hospitality and board game room, drinking coffee and chatting with friends.

A group of three women sat at one of the tables after a morning exercise class last week. They were quick to point out that the Adult Center isn’t just for older adults, but is open to anyone age 18 and older.

Regulars stress that there are many classes available that younger adults would enjoy. Even exercise classes, they said.

“It’s a great social experience,” said Beth Pappas.

“If you are 18 and take step aerobics, you’re still going to sweat,” said Lorual VanRheenen.

“It’s so much more than exercise,” VanRheenen also explained. “It’s relationships.”

“I’d love to see intergenerational interaction,” Cate Erbaugh noted.

The prices for many offerings at the Adult Center are described by Cole as “really inexpensive.” That includes the annual membership for those aged 18 through 54, or just a single-day use…
