Greg Segovia has been a Roswell Sertoma Club member for more than 60 years, and the club honored him Friday for his many years of service.
“I can’t imagine how much you’ve seen, how much the club has changed,” RSC President Adrianna Raven told Segovia before a cake was cut and served in his honor.
Segovia said he joined the club in February 1963, and at one time was president of the local club. He recalled hearing about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy while on his way to a club meeting later that year.
Raven said Segovia was honored by the national club for 60 years of service.
“By my count, that is 61 years,” Segovia said.
“I followed Tim Jennings as president,” he said, referring to Roswell’s current mayor.
Segovia said it was his fellow members who kept him coming back.
“It has been great,” he said. “The people I have met have been great.”
Raven said congratulations have been coming in from many of the clubs’ national and regional leaders.
Raven said Segovia is listed as the sixth longest-serving member in the world.
“I believe you are fifth,” Raven told Segovia. “They haven’t done an update.”
At the meeting, the club also honored Goddard High School student Dominic Ramirez as the club’s Student of the Month. Ramirez, 17, has lettered in football, basketball, golf and is a member of the National Honor Society. He said his current ambition is to be a firefighter.
Ramirez received a certificate and a $25 gift card for his honor.
Sertoma Inc. is an international charity dedicated to the “service of mankind.”
Locally, the club operates a bingo hall at 303 N. Virginia Ave.
