Meet a 2023-24 Student Delegate: Riley Stray of Woodstock High School!

Every school year, each CCSD high school selects one Student Delegate to the School Board to represent the student voice. One Delegate is named the Student Advisor and sits with the Board at its meetings. We’ll introduce you to them all this year! #CCSDfam!

Why did you want to serve as a student delegate to the School Board?

As I became more involved in my school, I began to look for opportunities that would allow me to grow my leadership and have a positive influence in my community. When I learned about the opportunity to be Woodstock’s student delegate, I was instantly intrigued because it would allow me to represent my student body and help improve our county. I love gaining insight into how each county decision is made and being a liaison between Woodstock’s community and the county. This opportunity expanded my leadership and my knowledge in tremendous ways.

 

What do you hope to learn from the experience?

Through this experience I hope to learn what goes into CCSD’s decision-making process. Our county is constantly improving and we have a very special school  school system, so learning how we continue to grow and improve is something I am grateful for. I also hope to learn how to expand my leadership, use my influence to represent my school and make positive changes that create an everlasting impact.

 

What do you feel makes a good leader?

I think being able to put others before yourself, uplifting others and being  dedicated are traits that make up the best leaders. Creating a positive and encouraging environment even when it is difficult to, along with having compassion and empathy for others, are skills that you must have in a leadership role.

 

What do you like most about your school?

WHS has many redeeming qualities, and it is hard to just choose one. If I had to choose, I would say the dedication of the teachers and students and the sense of camaraderie that has been built. The staff is extremely caring, and they help…
