Local boys wrestling teams compete in Belen | Local Sports

Against Goddard, the Coyotes won 54-6. The dual started with Coyote freshman Hunter Berry taking down Ivan Adame in the third period. Sophomore 139-pounder Amarante “Bubba” Marrujo took down Goddard’s Ethan Winchester just before the second period expired. Coyote junior Matthew Avitia took down Raes Nunez in the first. Rocket sophomore Riccie Winchester took down Kaden Lopez in the first period in 45 seconds by fall, and junior Coyote Noah won over Remigio Franco in the second period by fall.

In the Grants dual, the Coyotes won 30-24, with four matches going to decision. Grants’ Tanner Meador won over Berry in a close-shave decision, 13-12; followed by Grants’ Manuel Gonzales over Lujan in a 14-13 decision win; and Roswell’s Marrujo over Clemente Garcia by fall, 50 seconds into the second period. In the 145, Grants’ Larry Meador took down senior Coyote Connor Nichols in the first period. Lopez and Lynn won their matches against Grants’ Kierman Bell and Ty Mahkee by decisions, respectively (9-4 and 5-0).

For Goddard, the Rocket boys struggled in the event. Against Belen, the Rockets lost 78-0 against the Eagles. Four Goddard wrestlers lost their matches against the hosting team, with Adame in the 107 losing to Belen’s Joshua Jaramillo, Ethan Winchester lost to Eagle’s…
