The Goddard and Roswell high school’s varsity and junior varsity wrestling teams took to the Leonard Kirby Invitational at Belen High School last weekend. The Lady Rockets won their events, while the Lady Coyotes won against Cibola and Valencia.
During the invitational, Goddard won against five schools, including Roswell. Goddard and Roswell had several victories because the other schools lacked wrestlers in certain weight classes. Against Belen, 100-pounder Lady Eagle Aliyah Trujillo won over Goddard’s Aubrielle Aldana by technical fall. Goddard 107-pounder Izabella Tenorio won by fall over Hallie Martinez, and Goddard’s Esmerelda Meraz-Ortiz lost by a close 12-10 decision against Belen’s Olyvia Sanchez in the 114.
