Two RPD units collide during police chase | Local News

An accident report suggests one of the units was heading south on Virginia and the other west on Bland toward Main when they struck one another.

On Wednesday, Wildermuth told the Roswell Daily Record that one of the officers went to a hospital for what he described as “bumps, bruises and abrasions.” He said he did not know if that officer was released from the hospital.

The accident report says the other officer received an airbag burn on his right elbow and a scrape on his left thigh. A K-9 that was in one of the units was taken to a local veterinarian for what the accident report said was a minor concussion.

“The K-9 was checked by a vet and was released. The dog will have a follow-up appointment in a few days to confirm all is OK,” Wildermuth said.

RPD and Chaves County deputies took part in the pursuit that began at about 4:30 p.m. near Alameda Street and Ash Avenue after officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a red vehicle with a driver who was identified by officers as a person wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for probation violations.

When the driver did not stop, Wildermuth said the pursuit began.

“Officers backed off the pursuit five minutes after it began but tried to stay close enough to keep visual contact on the subject’s location and direction,” he said.
