Following an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump has been discharged from the hospital.
During the event, gunshots were fired, narrowly missing Trump’s ear, which prompted the Secret Service to swiftly escort him off the stage. The perpetrator, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Pennsylvania, was subsequently killed by law enforcement.
Tragically, one attendee lost their life in the incident, while two others remain in critical condition, according to law enforcement sources cited by NBC News.
Video footage captured the moment when Trump recoiled to the right, clutching his ear, and eventually falling to the ground. The Secret Service agents quickly surrounded him and safely transported him to his vehicle. Blood could be seen on the right side of his head.
President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Saturday evening, strongly condemning the violence and reiterating that such acts have no place in America.
Originally planning to spend the weekend in Delaware, Biden altered his plans and decided to return to Washington later in the evening.
The Georgia Democracy Resilience Network (GA DRN), an organization of voters and community leaders from both political spectrums, released the following statement,
“The Georgia Democracy Resilience Network condemns today’s violence targeting former President Trump in the strongest terms. Acknowledging that we do not yet have all the facts, we are nevertheless deeply concerned at what appears to be a politically motivated incident. Our thoughts are with President Trump and all those affected by this act of violence.”
The group is politically diverse and has received support from people like Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp (Rep) and the Georgia Minority Leader, Representative James Beverly. The co-leads for the group are Dr. Rashad Richey, a university professor and nationally known multimedia broadcaster and former GA State Senator Don Balfour. The network provides safe spaces to discuss civility in American politics and can be found at www.GeorgiaDRN.org.
