Blowing dust and dirt could restrict visibility to less than one mile, according to the warning.

“Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles,” the warning states.

The National Weather Service advises securing lightweight objects susceptible to wind pick-up.

Conditions could have consequences for schools in one local school district.

Hagerman Municipal Schools Interim Superintendent Belia Reyes posted on the district’s Facebook page on Monday that if the winds reach severe levels, school buses will not cross U.S. 285 today to pick up or drop off students due to safety concerns.

Reyes wrote in the post that the school district will monitor the situation and that additional information will be posted on the district’s website or sent to parents via text messages and the Class Dojo app as it becomes available.
