Mason Creek Middle students pen letters to USAF airman | Douglasville Sentinel

Airman 1st Class Dion Orellana attended Mason Creek Middle School from 2014-17 and is currently stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Ms. Daniel said the letter-writing project was organized by lifelong Douglas County citizen Al Dobbs.

“Mr. Dobbs is a veteran who served his country and takes great pride in supporting and providing emotional support to young adults who join the military to protect and serve our country,” Daniel said. “He’s been a mentor to Dion since he was a young child.”

According to graduates basic training (BMT) on the 22nd of this month. As of right now his goal is to be in the USAF long term, most likely making it a career — all while furthering his education.

“I want to make everyone proud and to represent the Air Force is a good image,” Orellana said.

Dobbs reached out to Daniel, who said she took the idea to the entire ‘Wolfden’ to have students write and express their gratitude and support to one of their own.

“We are proudly known as the Mason Creek Wolves and we were excited to start Wolfden Wednesday’s last year, a thirty minute AM block where students are paired with teachers who aren’t their grade level and or academic teachers. For example, sixth grade teachers have 8th grade students…,” Daniel explained.

During the 30 minute block, students work on study skills, social skills, academic goals, and discuss their progress reports/grades with their “Wolfden” teachers.
