Carrollton City Schools students named district ‘Young Author’ winners | Times Georgian

Carrollton Upper Elementary School fourth grader Ellisyn Claire Backus won with “The Fairies,” and Charlie Lyle represents fifth grade with “A Night to Remember.”

Jaina Williams took sixth-grade honors with “All the Time.” Seventh grader Liberty Thomaston is representing the district with her work “The Circle,” and eighth grader Alaina Dhople won for “The Fallen One.”

At Carrollton High School, Peyton Newell is representing the freshman class with her work, “Trapped?” Sophomore Milan Jovingo’s work “Drowning” earned her top honors. “The Pact of Prometheus” by Addison Lloyd represents 11th grade, and Autumn Martin won the senior honor with “Envious Questions.”

The 13 writers will now compete in the West Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency competition with other school district winners from Carroll, Coweta, Harris, Heard, Meriwether and Troup counties. The RESA-level winners will then advance to state competition this spring.

According to the state Department of Education, the purpose of the Young Georgia Authors writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics.
