Douglasville PD introduces Community Liaison division | Douglasville Sentinel

Motorists who need assistance may reach a Community Liaison officer by calling 911.

The division, consisting of six officers, is under the supervision of DPD veterans Capt. Mark Edwards and Lt. Adam Haney.

The officers were officially introduced to Mayor Rochelle Robinson, city council members, and other city officials during the Douglasville City Council meeting held Thursday.

The public can expect to see them at parks and apartment complexes in the city, parades, and concerts and other events being held at the Town Green complex.

“Citizens will be able to identify these officers by their uniforms and their specially marked vehicles,” Edwards said.

Police Chief Gary Sparks called the addition of this division a “win for the community and the police department.”

“These officers will be used to assist the public in a non-law enforcement capacity,” Sparks said, adding that this provides an extra layer of protection to the public while leaving the department’s certified officers to focus wholly on their law enforcement duties.

Officers in this division will also report criminal or suspicious activity to the on-duty patrol shift, direct traffic as needed, complete written or computer-generated reports as needed, and utilize hand-held radios to communicate with other officers and 911.
