Starting in March, the East Lake Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Station will be undergoing renovations, including replacement of a pedestrian bridge, stated officials.
Due to ongoing construction, the north pedestrian bridge and north parking lot at East Lake Station, located at 2260 College Ave., will close beginning March 13. “All customers must use the south pedestrian bridge and south parking lot to reach train and bus service at East Lake Station,” stated officials. “The East Lake StationSoccer pitch in the north lot will remain open with limited parking.”
Officials stated there will also be occasional road closures on West Howard Avenue and detours while the old bridge is removed and the new bridge installed. Road closures will be announced in advance.
As construction of the new bridge gets underway, MARTA will operate a Mobility shuttle starting March 13 that will pick up from the front platform of the north side of the station and drop off at the entrance of the south side of the station. MARTA Mobility provides Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant accessible service to anyone unable to ride or disembark from regular MARTA transit services, stated officials, who recommend adding an additional 15 to 20 minutes to travel time for Mobility services.
The new pedestrian bridge, which is expected to be completed in October, will provide safer access to MARTA services, stated officials.
“This project is part of our focus on Service, Experience, and Expansion (SEE),” said officials. “Once the work is complete, customers will have improved ADA accessibility with a new elevator and a cleaner, safer bridge with new flooring, lighting, and paint.”
Work on the new and improved south bridge will begin after the north bridge reopens in October, stated officials.
