Scott said the institution has evolved a great deal over the past decade and the current name and logo, while elegant, needed updating to capture its new vision.

“The new name reflects our desire to appeal to a wider audience and to engage with all local citizens as the place to learn about their home from a historical perspective,” Scott said.

Founded in 1972 by a dedicated group of locals passionate about historic preservation and education, Newnan Coweta History Center has become a cornerstone institution in the community.

Scott said the organization’s mission has come to encompass the interpretation and preservation of the historical, cultural, and architectural heritage of Newnan and Coweta County by several means.

“Thanks to a generous endowment from Mr. Edgar Hollis, one of these includes the operation of the McRitchie Hollis Museum at 74 Jackson Street,” Scott said.

Building on that mandate, the organization will open a new exhibit space on the first floor of McRitchie Hollis Museum in early 2024.

“These permanent exhibits will tell the story of Newnan and Coweta from its earliest days to the present and showcase local artifacts, documents, and photographs drawn from the museum’s robust and growing collections,” Scott said.
