Winners of the Carrollton Writers Guild/Center for the Arts High School Creative Writing Contest were honored at a luncheon on March 5. The annual competition features local literary artists in grades 9-12 who write poetry and short stories. The contest has been honoring outstanding young authors and poets for more than 30 years. Winners for 2024 included Autumn Martin of Carrollton High School, Carrollton Civic Women’s Club Special Recognition Award for her poem “Learner’s Permit”; Addison Lloyd of Carrollton High School, Special Recognition Award for her short story “Snapdragon”; Allison Lowry of Carrollton High School, first place in poetry for “Beth”; Sadie Ewers of Central High School, second place in poetry for “You Fell in Love With Me in the Spring”; Kennedy Little of Villa Rica High School, third place in poetry for “Strawberry Ice Cream”; Kai McMichael of Central High School, first place in prose for “Pentobarbital”; Caitlin Boone of Carrollton High School, second place in prose for “The Boy on the Throne”; and Ari Davis of Carrollton High School, third place in prose for “Little Reminders.”
