ALPHARETTA, Ga. — An Alpharetta woman reported March 2 someone scammed her of nearly $800 while trying to sell her TV on Facebook Marketplace.

The victim reported messaging a potential buyer around 6 p.m. March 1 about selling her TV to him for $1,000, and they agreed to make the transaction on Cash App.

She reported the suspect asked her to send him $490 to upgrade his Cash App account so he could send her the $1,000.

The victim told officers she sent the funds, but the buyer then asked for an additional $500. She reported sending him another $300.

After the victim sent the second payment, the suspect reportedly stopped responding.

Officers reported reviewing the messages and emails, and the emails seemed to be fraudulent and not from Cash App.

No suspects have been identified.
