Murder suspect dead after SWAT standoff | News

The suspect, identified as Omar Maurice Rosser, Jr., 19, was wanted in connection with the March 13 homicide of Bryant Elder, 19, in Luthersville, Ga., according to Newnan Communications Manager Aimee Hadden.

After a 3-hour standoff, Rosser reportedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No one else was inside the residence and no one else was injured in the incident.

According to the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, on March 13, 2024, at around 5:40 p.m., deputies responded to 120 College Street, Luthersville, Ga. about a person shot.

Upon arrival on the scene, personnel were directed to a storage shed located behind the residence. Deputies at that time located a male, identified as Elder, with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Deputies began CPR on Elder, who was turned over to Meriwether County EMS upon their arrival at the location. CPR was continued until it was medically determined that Elder was deceased.

Witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as Rosser, who reportedly fled the scene in Elder’s car, white in color.

Meriwether narcotics agents and patrol deputies were able to locate the Elder’s vehicle abandoned a short time later in the Zion Hill Community of Meriwether County.
