West Georgia came out of the gate firing offensively as the Wolves made their first seven shots, leading to a 16-12 lead at the first media timeout. Out of the break, Marlon Smith buried a three before Camron Donatlan scored a layup, giving the Wolves a nine point lead, six minutes in.

After that, UWG’s offense cooled off a bit while Florida Southern bigs, Luke Anderson, Alex Steen, and Akol Arop went to work. The trio carried a 15-7 Florida Southern run, cutting West Georgia’s lead to one with 8:21 left in the period. For the remainder of the half, neither team could create any separation as the Wolves went into their locker room up two.

Smith scored 15 points in the first half while West Georgia shot 45.2% from the floor and 45.5% from three in the first period. As for the Mocs, they shot 43.2% and 25% from three.

The second half saw six lead changes and three ties in the first six minutes as UWG held a 57-56 lead. A three from Cole Fisher and a basket from Smith got the Wolves’ lead up to five before Florida Southern countered with back-to-back buckets to make it a one-point game once more. Moments later, Smith and Donatlan carried a 7-0 UWG run to match their largest lead of the night at eight points.
