Those dicey plywood patches are officially a thing of the past at the boardwalk section of Atlantaās marquee park.
As visitors to Piedmont Parkās woodsy northeast section may have noticed, the parkās winding, elevated boardwalk has been rebuilt through an area known as the Six Springs Wetlands, allowing for quick access to nature, with views of native plants and trees and a babbling creek near Atlanta Botanical Garden.Ā
According to the Piedmont Park Conservancy, the remade boardwalk reopened last monthānow with sleeker, horizontal railingsāfollowing a closure last spring and extensive repairs. (Fun fact: The boardwalk and adjacent, gravel Six Springs Trail were originally opened back in 2009, after the conservancy had discovered six underground springs while expanding the areaās dog park.)
Repairs to the boardwalk and gravel trail were funded via the $750 million āMoving Atlanta Forwardā infrastructure bond package passed by Atlanta voters in 2022, according to the conservancy, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.
Take a quick boardwalk tour in the gallery aboveāno pollen meds required.
