The Southwest Classic Tournament concluded on Saturday with the Goddard High School varsity baseball team taking the championship against the Grants Pirates, 3-2, and Roswell outlasting the Clovis Wildcats for third place, 6-5 in 11 innings. The Coyotes faced the Wildcats at the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Ballpark, and Goddard took on Grants at the Goddard High School baseball field.
In other tournament games, NMMI lost to Alamogordo in the consolation championship, 4-2, to finish sixth. For seventh place, Ruidoso won against Gallup, 12-3. Both of these games took place at the NMMI Ballpark on Saturday.
