Atlanta’s population projected to hit 7.9 million by 2050

by Fulton Watch News Feed

According to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), metro Atlanta’s population is projected to surge to 7.9 million by 2050. This forecast underscores the region’s rapid growth and the challenges it poses for infrastructure, housing and transportation planning.

According to ARC, the growth will be driven by diversity, especially from racial and ethnic minority groups like Hispanic and Latino residents. A significant rise in older adults is also forecasted, with an anticipated 900,000 aged 75 or older by 2050. The report also indicates declining fertility rates and decreased “in-migration,” with outer counties experiencing the fastest growth.
