Bremen carries big region win into important week | Times Georgian

Despite the visiting Ramblers taking an early 1-0 lead, Bremen quickly took over the game Friday night. In total, the Blue Devils gathered seven hits, led by Cade Johnson who went two-for-three and also stole two bases. Sully Senft batted in the most runs with three RBIs going one-for-one at the plate.

Bremen also had to be patient at the plate to get runners on base, drawing a total of nine walks through the course of the five-inning affair, including three walks drawn by Cooper Mincey.

Lafayette took the lead early on a double by Cale Sholtz. One half inning later, Jonah Hatchett put the ball into play for an RBI single to tie the game up 1-1 going into the third.

That’s where Bremen took off, scoring three in the third, five in the fourth and four in the fifth. Lafayette cut the Blue Devils’ lead to as little as one run, 4-3, in the top of the fourth inning, but that’s as close as the Ramblers got.

Lafayette allowed six consecutive batters to get on base without an out in the middle of the fourth inning, including three walks, allowing Bremen to put together their biggest inning of the night and take a 9-3 lead.

In the fifth inning, three runs scored on Senft’s at bat — one on a passed ball and two on an RBI single into left field, forcing the game into a ten-point run rule.

Bremen (10-7, 2-1) will be at Lafayette (8-8, 1-2) to finish out the series on Tuesday at 5 p.m. They also have a region doubleheader scheduled at home against Ridgeland (10-3, 1-2) this Friday at 4:30 p.m.
