Early voting for District 2 seat starts Monday | Douglasville Sentinel

The commissioner’s seat has been empty since Robinson resigned in late November last year.

Jones received 987 votes in the March 12 special election while Hill got 576 votes to force a run-off.

“I’m excited about this run-off,” Jones said Friday afternoon via phone. “I hope I can maintain the same momentum. I’ve been knocking on doors trying to get the word out.”

Hill couldn’t be reached for comment.

Early voting will run through April 5 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Douglas County courthouse only.

Only voters living in District 2 can cast ballots.

Election Day will be April 9 at six locations with polls open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Locations for Election Day will be at Atlanta West Pentecostal, Lithia Springs High, Deer Lick Park, Chestnut Log Middle, Factory Shoals Middle and Boundary Waters Aquatic Center.

The winner will serve out the remainder of Kelly’s term, which ends on Dec. 31, 2024.

A primary election will be held May 21 to see who gets on the November ballot.

In addition to Jones and Hill, Ruben Tillman and Henry Mitchell IV will run as Democrats. Melody Wilcox is the lone Republican candidate.

Wilcox will face the Democrat winner in November for the seat.

“It is a matter of keeping your stamina up,” Jones said. “This is definitely a marathon and not a sprint.”

In 2022, Kenner Jones ran for the Georgia Senate 35 seat as a Democrat, but lost to incumbent Donzella James.

Robinson was a four-term Democrat whose 15 years on the Board of Commissioners is the longest in county history.
