Two men charged in eastside Roswell murder | Local News

Contreras has also been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a release issued late Saturday afternoon by the Roswell Police Department.

Police say both Contreras and Soltero are accused of shooting at Montoya. Contreras and Soltero, who reportedly had past conflicts with Montoya, are both in custody.

Roswell Police Department officers responded to the 300 block of East Van Buren Street at about 6:10 p.m. on Friday after people reported hearing gunshots in the area. Officers found Montoya within that same block. He was deceased and described as having received multiple gunshot wounds.

A car with its windshield damaged by gunshots was found one block away on East Reed Street, where Contreras lives.

Investigators found that Montoya and another person were in the car on East Reed Street when gunfire was exchanged between Montoya and the other two men, Contreras and Soltero. None of the gunshots struck the suspects and the other person in the car with Montoya was uninjured, police said.

The department’s Criminal Investigations Division determined that after the shooting, Contreras and Soltero fled the scene in another vehicle, and Montoya made his way on foot to East Van Buren, where police found his body.

During the investigation, Contreras and Soltero were found at an apartment complex in the 100 block of East 22nd Street. The two men were taken into custody and questioned as the investigation unfolded. Warrants for their…
