Douglas County Farm Bureau’s Floyd serving on state committee | Douglasville Sentinel

This is the first year of a two-year term on the committee for Floyd, who along with his wife, Joni, fall received the GFB 3rd District Volunteer of the Year Award last fall.

Floyd says his focus is getting more farmers’ product to the city and developing business models around the needs of the farmers. Another important mission for him is informing the public about off-farm professions tied to agriculture. Floyd is lead chef at multiple restaurants and works to connect with local farmers to access locally produced foods. He is co-founder of the annual MAES farmers market, which draws more than 100 vendors and raises money to support ag programs in Douglas County schools.

MAES supported the Mason Creek Elementary School agriculture program, which teaches children sustainability and the importance of farm-to-table programs in the community.

Floyd started a “Homestead Series” in which he teaches community members about various cuts of meat and how to butcher different animals. He led a poultry workshop, teaching how to build a chicken coop, various poultry species, and budgeting for owning and feeding chickens. He also works with other landowners to help determine what type of livestock their property will support.

Floyd lives in Winston with his wife, Joni, and their sons, Trey and Jayden. He owns Ponderosa Pine Poultry, where he raises chickens, ducks, geese and goats, as well as tending a garden.

On the committee, Floyd represents the GFB 3rd District, which includes Farm Bureaus in Carroll, Clayton, Cobb, Douglas, Fayette, North Fulton, South Fulton, Gwinnett, Haralson, Henry, Newton, Paulding, Polk and Rockdale/DeKalb counties.
