Lady Rockets take down Roswell in first meeting | Local Sports

Lady Rocket seniors Annika Roybal, Audrina Cobos and sophomore Marisol Hernandez each had three RBIs, with Hernandez leading the way in runs with two. Seven Lady Rockets put up at least one run with freshman Roxanna Serrano leading the Rockets with two. On defense, Juliet Gallegos pitched seven innings and struck out six. For the Lady Coyotes, senior Sarai Morales led the team in RBIs with two, followed by junior Lauren Lucero with one. Lucero led the team in runs, with Morales and junior Yadira Aragon with one run each.

Roswell Varsity Softball Head Coach Rebecca Marrujo said the team still needs growth early in the season. She said they have to clean up their defense and baserunning errors before their next game against Lovington.

“We have a lot of overcoming to do,” Marrujo said. “It’s going to get better. It has to be better.”

Goddard Varsity Softball Head Coach Carlton Gilette is happy with their win over their neighbors but hopes they can build on their win for the rest of the season.
