ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico (UNM) Health System is bringing new services to the Roswell area. They will offer primary care, behavioral health, and sexually transmitted infection care.
“UNM is fulfilling an important goal of making health care more accessible to more people,” Dr. Mike Richards, the senior vice president of UNM Clinical Affairs, said in a press release. “By creating this kind of access, not only are we able to diagnose and treat more New Mexicans, but we are also able to reduce the stigmas still associated with HIV and STIs. We need to be able to talk about these health care concerns without fear, judgment, or embarrassment so that more people are inclined to seek out these services.”
The hope is to address ongoing public health issues in the southern part of the state. For example, HIV positivity rates have increased in Chaves County by 52% since 2008, UNM Health says. And the new clinic, called Truman Health Services Roswell, will help treat those cases.
The clinic is located at 601 W. Country Club Road, Suite 102, Roswell, New Mexico. To schedule an appointment or to get more info on services, call 505-272-1312.
