Carrollton man gets life for kidnapping, aggravated assault | Times Georgian

Detective Dan Keever with the Carrollton Police Department led the investigation and DA Investigator Becky Byrd, Assistant DA’s Wade Mason and Laura Lurkert alongside Victim Advocate Katelynn Culbreath prosecuted the case.

According to the release, on May 5, 2021, the victim met Jones in a local gym parking lot to discuss their relationship issues. Upon arrival, Jones grabbed her by her hair, forced her into the car and beat her in the head with both his hands and a handgun. Video surveillance footage also revealed Jones continuing to abuse her while taking her to a BP gas station, local church and Dollar General.

According to the DA, Jones took the victim to a dirt road where he forced her on her knees, put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her before taking her to a relative’s house where she stayed in a shed overnight. The next day, he returned her to her car at the gym.

Medical records from Tanner Medical Center were admitted by the state as well as photographs displaying her facial injuries. Carroll County Superior Court Judge Dennis Blackmon declared that “Jones’ reign of terror ends today”, as he also has multiple prior convictions of violence towards women and children. Another previous girlfriend of Jones also testified of the physical abuse she endured by him for more than a decade.
