Pecos Elementary School placed on lockdown after report of a teacher being threatened with a gun | Local News

At about 7:30 a.m., RPD, the New Mexico State Police and Chaves County deputies were called to the school after a dark gray SUV came onto the property. A man in the backseat of the vehicle reportedly pointed a gun at a teacher before then driving away.

He added that the gunman was wearing a red shirt or sweater. Investigators have not determined whether the person could have been the parent of a student at the school.

Wildermuth said that no one was injured, and no shots were fired. He added that the episode happened as students were getting dropped off at school, but that most students were not on campus when the incident occurred.

Chaves County Sheriff Mike Herrington said authorities put the school on lockdown, but that the lockdown was lifted at 8:05 a.m. after law enforcement concluded that the armed man had left the school property.

“Since then, the school day has proceeded as usual with no threat present to students, staff or others at the site,” Wildermuth later said.
