Skandalakis has served as a special prosecutor on high-profile cases before. In 2021, Attorney General Chris Carr appointed Skandalakis to take over investigating two white police officers involved in the killing of Rayshard Brooks, a 21-year-old Black man who had been sleeping in his car in a Wendy’s drive-thru lane. Willis recused her office from that case.
