Mother charged with infant son’s death | Douglasville Sentinel

Holyfield is facing second degree murder for the death of her son in addition to second degree cruelty to children and concealing a death charges.

McClain instructed Holyfield of her rights and then denied bond.

Holyfield was wheeled into the courtroom in a wheelchair by a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy as she was dressed in a beige prison jumpsuit.

Her voice was barely audible as McClain asked if she understood her rights.

According to an arrest warrant, Holyfield smoked fentanyl at her residence on Highway 92 late Monday night.

She fell asleep, and the child got ahold of the drugs, according to the warrant McClain read in court.

Holyfield attempted suicide after discovering the child was died.

She said the death was an accident, and apologized to her other child, according to the suicide note.

Paramedics responded to the suicide attempt, and discover the deceased child.
