CUMMING, GA — A former Forsyth County Schools teacher is facing multiple charges after being accused of sexually exploiting a child online, Forsyth authorities and school officials said in a joint news release sent Monday.
Authorities with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said James Andrew “Drew” Cecil, 38, of Cumming, was arrested Friday afternoon after being charged on suspicion of nine counts of possession of child pornography and one count of sexual exploitation of children.
His arrest stems from an April 14 investigation during which the sheriff’s office’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit received a time-sensitive tip from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children about online sexual exploitation of a child, authorities said.

Cecil, a former fourth-grade teacher at Poole’s Mill Elementary School, was identified as the suspect, and he was removed from the classroom during the investigation, authorities said.
Authorities said no children from the Forsyth County School District were involved in the investigation.

School officials said Cecil has not been on school campus since April 14, and he was fired on April 21. Officials said Cecil previously taught at and coached volleyball at North Forsyth High School from 2016-21.
“We are legally unable to share additional personnel information. Our staff will continue to work with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office on this ongoing investigation. If parents/guardians or former students have information relative to these charges, they should contact the sheriff’s office,” school officials said in the release.
Cecil was taken to the Forsyth County Jail and was held on a $55,200 bond.
