Here are the top stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson and 100 Black Men of DeKalb have joined together to host the “Youth Voicez: Violence Prevention Summit.” The event will take place on Monday, June 12, at 4 p.m. The event will be held at Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center. Johnson’s mission for the program is to bring awareness to the prevention of youth violence. The campaign is known as “Enough is Enough.”(On Common Ground News)
- We’re going to shine the spotlight on local talent. Fayrothedo, is a rapper, and a composer. He was born in the Decatur area. He also lived in the surrounding area of Stone Mountain. Fayrothedo is known for his song,”What We Doing. ” (Creative Loafing)
- Juneteenth is arriving a bit early. There will be a pre-Juneteenth celebration today at Legacy Park, 500 S Columbia Dr, Decatur, GA, 30030. The event begins at 1 p.m. Those in attendance can expect to hear about the historical and cultural aspects of the national holiday. There will be food, fun, and live music!
