ATLANTA, GA — The wet, rainy weather in metro Atlanta should continue the remainder of the work week through the weekend as showers continue to pour across the area Thursday morning.
The strongest of the thunderstorms have moved through the metro, said Vaughn Smith, meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office.
“This is just a typical Georgia summertime day,” Smith told Patch.
The rain should completely clear out of metro Atlanta around 2 p.m., leaving behind a cloudy afternoon, Smith said.
High temperatures will be in the mid-80s while lows are expected to be around 70 degrees.
Weather officials were concerned Wednesday about severe overnight storms. Smith told Patch there was no significant widespread damage as of Thursday morning aside from reports of downed trees.
Channel 2 Action News reported at least 16,000 Georgia Power customers were without power around 5 a.m., but according to an outage map, that number has since decreased tremendously.
The outlet also reported a large tree fell on a car and part of a home in Atlanta.
Thunderstorms and showers are possible from about 2-8 p.m. Thursday due to a constant moist pattern, he said. Storms are also forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
