- Deliberations by a termination tribunal began today for a case over a Cobb County teacher at the center of book reading controversy. Teacher Katie Rinderle is accused of violating state law and district policy for reading a book to her class—parents complained to administration when she read a a book about gender norms to her fifth-grade class. Currently, Rinderle faces charges of insubordination and willful neglect of duties, and if she is fired, she will be the first public school teacher to be terminated under the state’s new divisive concepts law. - Yesterday, an Atlanta area man was charged was indicted on federal charges of money laundering and wire fraud as he fraudulently obtained funds through a COVID-19 relief program. The case is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General, the IRS, the FBI, the federal Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Service. (Capitol Beat)
- Up the road in Walker County, a woman was arrested after more than one hundred animals were removed from her home in a hoarding situation. Following a call to the Animal Shelter requesting a welfare check, Animal Services obtained a warrant and searched the woman’s home, finding dogs chained to trees, animal feces inside the primary residence, and dozens of cats stacked in crates, including one that was deceased. The animals were removed and taken to shelters for medical care, while the woman was arrested and faces charges of Aggravated Animal Cruelty and Willful Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer.
