With the spookiest month of the year just a couple of weeks away, Allied Arts is calling on artists to bring in the creepiest of their creations for an upcoming “Haunted Milledgeville” exhibit.
Kristin Allen, program coordinator at Allied Arts, said this is the first time Allied Arts has hosted the spooky-themed exhibit. While any medium is welcome, Allen and her Allied Arts co-workers have been busy preparing for the event by taking photographs of some of the most notorious haunted places in Milledgeville and creating informational booklets that will share the places’ unique histories with visitors.
Central State Hospital and Georgia College & State University are just two of the places set to be featured in photographs and stories. The Tate House, a popular stop on the city’s beloved ghost tours, will also be highlighted. The house typically evokes the most questions since the North Jefferson Street residence has been home to many college students through the years. Allen said there will also be information provided on American serial killer Paul John Knowles, known as “The Casanova Killer,” whose crime spree brought him through Milledgeville in the ‘70s.
While the majority of the exhibit will be made up of photography, other artists have already submitted work as well, and Allen said they have received a few mixed media entries.
“So, it will be a little bit of everything,” she said.
The deadline for artists to submit their work is Sept. 28, and Allen said they are looking for anything that aligns with the Haunted Milledgeville theme.
“Anything creepy, Halloween-related,” she said, will be accepted. “It doesn’t have to be anything from here. We really just want people to participate. I’m not trying to hinder anybody on their creativity at all, just as…
