Tyler Fairley Foundation scholarships awarded to DCHS seniors | Local News

Tyler J. Fairley was a football player at Douglas County High School with his sights set on college when he passed away in August of 2021.

Fairley was a two-year starter on the Tigers offensive line and was named to the All-Region 5-6A second team in his last season. In helping lead the team to the first round of the Class 6A playoffs, Fairley was a big part of the offensive line. The Tigers offense averaged 285 yards per game.

Tyler’s family created the foundation last year and awarded the initial three scholarships. At inception, the Tyler Fairley Foundation was given a mission inspired by Tyler’s love for sports, particularly football, and his genuine concern for others wellbeing.

Tosha Sullivan, contacted by phone, Tyler’s mom, said that Tyler is remembered for his sense of humor, a well-mannered nature, never disrespectful; he loved sports especially football and basketball and he played both from second grade on.

Said to be well respected by his principal, coaches, teammates and fellow students, Tyler had a bright future ahead of him with a full scholarship to play college football when he passed away from a non-football related illness.

The Foundation is established primarily to provide college scholarships and grants for underserved students. The scholarships and grants are titled “TYLER 55” in honor of his retired football jersey number 55.
