A wrestling ring, gospel concert, and a law enforcement-sponsored community event within two city blocks of one another? That eclectic combination cannot be found anywhere other than downtown Milledgeville as October’s First Friday features all that and more, free to the community this week.
For the second year in a row, Milledgeville Main Street has partnered with a local wrestling organization to bring live sports entertainment to the parking lot adjacent to the downtown post office. Fans will be treated to three championship matches and more action featuring the stars of Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW) beginning with the 6 p.m. bell time.
“The tradition of wrestling in Milledgeville dates back to the 1960s, and Georgia Championship Wrestling is excited to bring our brand back to the forefront in middle Georgia,” said Chris Nelms, who is on the card defending his TV Championship belt against longtime rival Johnny Camo.
Also taking to the squared circle are King of Sports Southeastern Heavyweight Champion Sean Nelson and Milledgeville’s own title hopeful Velvet Jones. Dee Money, who the crowd loved to hate last year, is putting his GCW Brass Knuckles Championship up against Jay Shaw. Also scheduled to appear are Brandon Kage, Ryan Phoenix, AJ Black, and more.
Some seating will be provided outside the ring, but fans are also allowed to bring their lawn chairs to take in the action.
“There will be free gifts to the first 100 kids to enter the event,” a press release from Main Street reads. “This is certain to be an epic smackdown. Patrons are encouraged to make posters for the wrestlers and plan to make some noise in downtown Milly this Friday night.”
