Students from Girard, Iroquois and Fairview were victorious in the Erie Times-News and GoErie.com’s first Erie County Male Athlete of the Week, Female Athlete of the Week and Football Player of the Week polls.
Luke Wetzel, a Girard soccer player, was the winner for the Male Athlete balloting. He received 80 votes, nine more than Iroquois soccer player Mava Mboko.
Iroquois did have a poll winner in Miranda Kaiser. She received 103 votes, followed by 71 for Girard soccer player Peyton Koma.
Fairview’s Braden Moore, whose interception return for a touchdown clinched the Tigers’ 31-13 victory vs. Corry, claimed first in the Football Player poll. He got 78 votes to 70 for McDowell kicker Alex Sontheimer.
The nominees for October’s first polls were based on their results from the previous week.

The two polls will normally be posted on GoErie.com from Monday at 5 p.m. through Wednesday at 5 p.m. We invite readers to support their favorite athlete by sharing the polls and spreading the word on social media.
Readers can nominate an athlete for the polls by sending an email to [email protected], with “Athlete of the Week nominee” in the subject line. Please include the athlete’s school, sport, year in school and specifics of why they’re being nominated.
