Yadkinville is losing one of its two grocery chain stores with the closing of Lowes Foods by Oct. 31.
The store is at 948 S. State St., the Winston-Salem chain said Wednesday.
Lowes didn’t provide comment beyond stating that Yadkinville store employees will be given opportunities to transfer to other locations in the Triad.
Yadkinville still has a Food Lion location at 616 S. State St., as well as smaller grocery stores.
“It saddens me to hear that the Lowes Foods in Yadkinville will be closing,” said Kevin Austin, chairman of Yadkin County Board of Commissioners. “I enjoy their clean store and friendly service.
“This has been rumored for a while and may be the impetus for the expected Food Lion expansion just north on State Street.”

Lowes also announced that it has sold its location in Stuart, Va., to Food Country.
The Lowes news release includes news of opening a fifth store in the Charleston, S.C., market in Summerville in 2025.
The Summerville store will be 50,887 square feet and anchor a new retail center between two large Berkeley County residential developments.
Lowes also said it will enter Georgia for the first time with its acquisition of the Foothills IGA Market store in Marble Hill.
Although the store will operate as IGA for the next few months, it is scheduled to convert to Lowes in early 2024.
