The PBC women’s soccer tournament opened on Monday with four quarterfinal games. The top seeds won all four contests and will move on to the semifinals and finals which will be hosted this Friday and Sunday at the University of North Georgia. Specific game times will be released later this week.

Bearcats knock out Sand Sharks in penalty kicks 6-5 to advance to the PBC Semifinals

GREENWOODÂ – In a back-and-forth match for a spot in the Peach Belt semifinals that went 110 minutes, Lander outlasted USC Beaufort in penalty kicks 6-5 to advance.
After a scoreless 75 minutes, Emma Sexton would find Kaitlyn Thompson, who squeezed a shot between a diving keeper and the right post to put Lander up 1-0. Five minutes later, The Sand Sharks tied the game up on a goal by Savannah Page. Neither team could find the back of the net in the final eight minutes, sending the match into overtime.
Despite controlling the ball for much of the first overtime, Lander could not score, and the game would go to a second overtime. After a scoreless second overtime, the match would head to a shootout for a spot in the semifinals.
With the shootout tied at five, Leah Hayes Coen would stop a shot by Jenny Hesby, bringing freshman Rylee King to the line. She would blast the shot into the back of the net to give Lander the win and sending the Bearcats to the PBC semifinals.
