MILTON, Ga. — Election Day has started in Milton for its first-ever self-conducted municipal election, where the three Milton City Council Post 2 seats are on the ballot.
District 1, Post 2 incumbent Carol Cookerly is defending the seat against Helen Gordon.
Doug Hene is running to replace incumbent Paul Moore in District 2, Post 2. Moore had announced he would not seek re-election and did not qualify, meaning Hene will win the seat by default.
District 3, Post 2 incumbent Rick Mohrig is seeking another term against challenger Phil Cranmer.
Milton voters can cast their ballot until 7 p.m. at their assigned polling location.
There are three Election Day polling places: Milton City Hall on Heritage Walk, the Community Center at Milton Park and Preserve on Dinsmore Road, and the Milton Municipal Court at the Public Safety Complex on Ga. 9.
If a voter insists on voting at the wrong location, they can vote on a provisional ballot after 5 p.m., in accordance with a new state mandate. Any provisional ballot cast before 5 p.m. will not count.
The city has also posted signs at nine former polling locations, alerting Milton voters where their new Election Day polling place is located.
