The playoffs have finally arrived. From this point forward, it’s win or go home for teams across the state. More than 80 Houston-area squads have qualified for the postseason, but the field will be trimmed dramatically this week following the bi-district round. How will young programs like Randle and Iowa Colony fare in their first playoff appearances? Will Ridge Point and Tompkins give us another instant classic? Which team will prevail in a district champion clash between Dickinson and Pearland? We will soon find out.
The Woodlands (7-3) vs. Spring (5-5) | Region II-6A Division I
7 p.m. at Woodforest Bank Stadium
The Woodlands reached the playoffs for the 29th time with a second-place finish in District 13-6A. The Highlanders enter the postseason following a Week 11 bye. Spring, meanwhile, needed a win last week to secure its playoff berth. The Woodlands lost 60-52 against Willis in its regular season finale on Oct. 28. Spring topped Eisenhower 40-10 last week, pulling away with 31 unanswered points. The Lions are back in the playoffs after missing last season. That miss broke up a streak that dated back to 2014. After taking a one-year hiatus, The Woodlands and Spring will renew their postseason rivalry. The teams met in the bi-district round three straight years from 2019-21. The Woodlands won 17-0 in the first meeting. Spring won 42-21 in 2020 and 52-35 in 2021. – Rob Tate
