Clayton County Board of Commissioners Hears Proposal On Trash Pickup | News

According to the Nov. 14 presentation, Cycleworks would be the primary trash pickup provider for Districts 1 and 2 and secondary for Districts 3 and 4.

Amwaste would be the proposed primary for Districts 3 and 4 and proposed secondary for Districts 1 and 2.

According to numbers provided during the meeting, the proposed rate is $19 per month in all districts and would include one 95-gallon cart.

Optional services would include:

— Bi-weekly single stream curbside recycling to include one 65-gallon cart.

— On demand yard trimmings pickup.

— On demand bulk items pickup.

— White goods pickup. White goods are bulk waste items including refrigerators, stoves and ranges, water heaters, freezers, swing sets, bicycles without tires, scrap metal, copper, furniture, etc.

Commissioner Felicia Franklin had concerns about having just two large companies and with them backing each other up, what would happen if both get complaints.

County Commission Chair Jeff Turner said one option would be to scrap the mandatory pickup and “continue to allow citizens to choose their own provider — hire and fire them at their will when service is bad because at the end of the day it’s their trash.”

He added that household trash is not the problem, but littering and illegal dumping are.

However, Commissioner Alieka Anderson said the county does need trash service.

She also cited numbers that the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office has picked up more than 330 tons of trash since Sheriff Levon Allen has taken office.

“We need trash service,” she said. “It’s time for Clayton County…
