Beary Merry Events in New Bern kick off Friday afternoon and will have events through the rest of the year.

Downtown New Bern will come to life Friday evening with two major events to kick off the holiday festivities.

Amanda Banks, ‘Chief Elf in Charge,’ spoke about the events, “Friday we have the tree lighting and we also have Santa’s arrival here on Middle Street, So we kinda combined the two events.”

Another major event this season is the live window display on December 8- a night that’s exploded in recent years

“People come all over the state for this event. It started out as just a few stores, and now we’re up to I think almost twenty stores will have someone in them for this event,” Banks said.

There will also be events that last the whole season, including photos with Santa and lights throughout Union Point Park

“So many light displays at Union Point, our city has worked really hard to make Union Point beautiful and festive for the season. We’ll have the Christmas tree, the lights and we also have the ice skating rink, which the city has been able to bring, and it’s even bigger this year,” Banks added.

With all of these events happening downtown, keep in mind there will be temporary road closures and more pedestrians on the sidewalks and crossing the streets.
