CAC urges residents to support arts on Giving Tuesday | Archives

Donate to the CAC’s Giving Tuesday campaign, and help the CAC bridge the gap.

The need for high-quality arts and culture programming continues to grow. In 2017, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), schools across the country reported that 53% of their students represented people of color.

As the world and classrooms become more diverse and interconnected, it is important that students are exposed to arts and cultural lessons that differ from their own.

Immersion to world cultures not only has the power to inspire students but it also strengthens their critical thinking and empathy skills. Through cultural experiences, students will be able to more strongly empathize and understand concepts or practices that they wouldn’t have otherwise been able to interact with. 

The same NCES study shows that 93% of teachers agree that students should be exposed to global cultures in the classroom. Despite this, since 2008 arts and culture programs have consistently been the first to get the axe when budgets are cut. To continue to provide empowering cultural programs, schools must partner with community organizations like the Cultural Arts Council.
